I first met Maggie and Michael at their engagement session on Sea Island, a place that is dear to both of them and close to where they were getting married just 7 months later. Maggie is one of those individuals who you feel that you’ve known for years, just moments after meeting. Her vibrant personality marries beautifully with Michael’s steady confidence and the two of them together are simply a joy to be around. Their wedding weekend was full of smiles, squeals and laughter…just as it should be!

Forbes Farm is quite possibly the most beautifully perfect venue for a wedding celebration – each detail was thought through so carefully during construction. With light coming in the gorgeous windows, the bridal suite is a photographer’s dream come true as a getting ready space for the wedding party.

Maggie and Michael chose to have a first look together at the reception venue – and while catering, bartending, florals and desserts were all setting up, the couple shared an intimate moment as they saw one another for the first time.

Christ Church Frederica is so important to both Maggie and Michael’s family. Maggie’s grandfather, William Thomas Fitzgerald, served as the rector here and was buried next to his wife in the church graveyard. To honor their loved ones that passed, they placed blooms on their graves and said a prayer together. As a photographer, I am privileged to see so many tender moments, and this one was so incredible that it brought tears to my eyes.

With the threat of incoming rain on their wedding weekend, Maggie and Michael started off by burying a bottle of bourbon at Christ Church on Frederica. To everyone’s surprise, the clouds parted at the just the right moment of Maggie entering the ceremony. The age old tradition was successful and what followed was the most beautiful day for the union of this couple.

As vows were exchanged, Maggie Hughes Events and her team were at Forbes Farm working hard to create a reception space fit for Maggie and Michael to celebrate with their closest friends and family. The back of the building faces the marsh and as the sun set, guests enjoyed custom cocktails and beautiful hor d’oeuvres before officially welcoming the newlyweds.

A moment I will never forget from this wedding was Maggie’s pure joy as she signed her marriage license and made everything official. Michael couldn’t help but smile and laugh as he watched his bride jump up and down on the ottoman.
