A Miracle Homecoming: Rosie

Bringing Rosie home right before Christmas was nothing short of a true miracle. After a high risk pregnancy with an unknown future for mama and baby, Rosie’s arrival marked a cherished moment in time for the Miller family.

Not far into Hannah’s pregnancy, Rosie was diagnosed with Extralobar Bronchopulmonary Sequestration – a rare abnormality where a mass forms outside of the lungs, causing a host of complications and questions during pregnancy as well as after. After one appointment and scan, everything was suddenly different. This rainbow pregnancy felt in jeopardy and the life that was envisioned wasn’t as close to reality as was thought.

After switching medical facilities (in another city) to one equipped for the necessary scans, medical professionals and the post-birth systems in place, each visit focused on measuring the mass and calculating risks at every turn. As Rosie grew, so did her mass and the complications that came along with it. Hannah was assured that after Rosie was born, her delivery wouldn’t look like her previous delivery with her son, Noah. Teams would be set up to take her away as soon as possible to assess her body and care for treatment and surgeries to come in the following first weeks and months of her life.

On November 29, 2024, Rosie was born. As promised, she was quickly cared for by the medical team and her scans and tests began.

I write this now more in the viewpoint of a friend than a photographer and storyteller. I waited patiently to hear from Hannah as I knew she was in a world of uncertainty having just delivered her second child, in a hospital bed, not knowing the next steps for both her and her daughter. With anticipation, I received the best news:

Rosie was born a healthy baby girl with no complications and with only a short NICU stay, was released to go home 24 hours later.

I wept with joy for my friend, her daughter and her family. My faith was amplified and I was left speechless. A true miracle was performed.

“For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.”
Colossians 1:16-17
